Acie Andrew ""Ace"" Austin 79, of Amarillo passed away Monday June 7, 2010 in Amarillo. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday at Chaparral Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Burkhalter, pastor officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Austin was born in Shamrock. He lived in Amarillo most of his life. He worked in law enforcement for more than 40 years. He served as the Chief of Police in Shamrock for several years. He also worked as deputy sheriff for Potter County and San Miguel County (Pecos), NM. Ace retired as a guard for the Texas Department of Corrections. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the Army boxing team. Ace was an encourager. He was always telling his children and grandchildren they could accomplish anything they put their minds to. Ace loved playing stringed instruments, especially the mandolin. He loved sharing stories of his life with his family and friends. He was a member of the Khiva Shrine Mini-Vettes and the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife Wanda of the home, his son, Steve Austin and his wife LaZane of Amarillo; one daughter, Cheryl Austin of Amarillo; a step-daughter, Jeri Schneider and her companion Mark Cooley of Albuquerque, NM; a step-son, Jim Woods and his wife Yvonne of Albuquerque, NM; 5 grandchildren, Stephen, Jr., Alisha, Shannon, Mandy and Sandy and 8 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorial donations be the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 815 Market Street Galveston, TX 77550-2725
