Agapita Garcia Cantu

Agapita Garcia Cantu 87, of Amarillo died Thursday, May 10, 2018 in Amarillo. Rosary will be said at 5:00 PM Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Gomez, celebrant officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Cantu was born on Aug. 18, 1930 in Nilvale. She moved to Amarillo in 1999 from Lubbock. Agapita lived in Hereford for many years where she raised her family. She married Pedro Cantu on Aug. 7, 1949 in San Benito. She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Cantu in 1999 and three grandchildren. She is survived by six daughters, Anita Balderas of Ft. Lupton, CO, Mary Ellen Zarazua and Sandra Cantu both of Lubbock, Beatrice Madrigal of Amarillo, Dolores Gutierrez of Hereford and Margie Austin of Hutto; five sons, Pete Cantu, Jr., Enrique "Ricky" Cantu and Mike Cantu all of Amarillo, Narrisco Cantu of Lubbock and Paul Cantu of Arlington; three sisters, Theresa Hastings of Hereford and Vare Forbes of Amarillo; four brothers, Henry Garcia, Primo Garcia, Nicholas Garcia and Poncho Garcia all of Hereford; 34 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
