A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 11 at Llano Cemetery with Brent Adams, elder of Southwest Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military honors by the DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Alvin J. Short, 68, of Amarillo, Tx, died September 8, 2010, in the care of BSA Hospice surrounded by family. He was born November 1, 1941, in Erick, Oklahoma, the son of late Odis and Lela Short. He was the oldest of 5 siblings. On October 24, 1959, he married Opal Darlene Short. He 1958 he enlisted in the Army at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He was part of the Field Artillery ""B"" Battery, 2nd Battalion. After his discharge, he owned his own drywall business. Afterwards, he was employed by IBP Tyson for 30 years, retiring in 2008. Alvin is survived by his son Russell Short of Fort Worth, Tx; son and daughter-in-law, Royse and Martha Short of Amarillo, Tx; grandchildren, Jesseka Short of Arlington, Tx; Brandy, Sydney, Saber, and Michelle Short of Amarillo, Tx; great grandchildren, Brenden, Mariah, Donovan, and Amari Short of Arlington, Tx; Madison and Maddox Potts of Amarillo, Tx; brother and sister in-law, Ronnie and Lovera Short of Amarillo, Tx; and a sister, Derlene Whitman of Kemah, Tx. Mr. Short was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; son, Tracey; granddaughter, Cydney Short; and brothers, Ricky and Joe Short. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm Friday at the funeral home
