Amos Doyle Bates

Amos Doyle Bates 83, of Amarillo died Friday May 15, 2015 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Monday at Llano Cemetery with Sherman Eastland officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Bates was born in Jerusalem, Ark. on July 31, 1931 to Amos and Millie Bates. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Bates worked as a police officer in Virginia before moving to Amarillo 50 years ago. In Amarillo he worked as a truck driver for Affiliated Foods until his retirement He was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte in 2011. Mr. Bates is survived by 3 daughters, Toni Drinkard, Tana Williams and Leslie Williams all of Amarillo; 3 sons Ken Bates and Kevin Bates both of Virginia and Steve Williams of Amarillo; 2 brothers, Harold Bates and Carol Bates both of Mountain Home, Ark; 9 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
