Anna Lou Hughes

Anna Lou ""Annie"" Hughes 83, of Amarillo died Saturday in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 23, 2008 at South Georgia Baptist Church with Jed Humphrey, Minister of Worship officiating. Interment will be at Llano cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. Hughes was born in Little York, IL. She moved to Amarillo in 2006 from Littleton, CO. She was a homemaker and attended South Georgia Baptist Church. She married Jim Hughes in 1950 at Bowie, TX. She and Jim spent many years in Southern California, where they made many lifelong friends. Mrs. Hughes dearly loved her grandchildren. She also loved traveling and painting. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006. Survivors include: 1 son Brad Hughes and his wife Ellen of Amarillo; 1 daughter, Linda Smolka and her husband Frank of Littleton, CO; 2 step-daughters, Patricia Dwyer of Elmwood, IL and Katie Fears of Nacogdoches, 2 sisters; Mary Arthur and June Danner; 1 brother, David Lipes; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer Hughes-Denny, and Tiffany Gilbert and husband Guy all of Amarillo; 4 grandsons, J. Brandon Hughes and wife Linda of Weatherford, Joshua Hughes of Amarillo, Jason Smolka of Longmont, CO, and Zachary Smolka and wife Katie of Wheat Ridge, CO; 3 great-grandchildren, Landan Hughes, Hayden Denny, and Benjamin Smolka. The family requests memorial donations to South Georgia Baptist Church Building Fund 5209 S. Georgia Amarillo, Texas 79110.
