Anna Bernice Ruggles-Patterson

June 30, 1919 — February 25, 2020

Anna Bernice Ruggles Patterson of Amarillo died Tuesday February 25, 2020. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements and cremation are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. Interment will be in Hobbs, New Mexico. Bernice was born June 30, 1919 in Canadian, Texas to Mattie and Clarence Ruggles. The sixth of ten living children, she helped to raise several of her siblings. She had wonderful stories to tell about how the family survived the Great Depression by working in the CCC camps in New Mexico. She took all children "under her wing" and many people still refer to her as "Mom" today. Bernice enjoyed cooking and sewing for her family. She was a faithful church member and taught Sunday School in Hobbs for many years. She was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Amarillo. She was retired from retail clothing sales. Bernice was married for 48 years to Nathan E. (Buddy) Patterson, who preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents and eight of her siblings. She is survived by her two daughters Kaye Short and husband Everett of Amarillo, and Judy Patterson Barry of Bowie, Texas; one sister, Theda Crawford of Kingsland, Texas; three step granddaughters,` Darla and Jana Goodman of Amarillo and Brenda Asher of Kentucky; and two "special daughters" Myrl Betts and Francheska Alexander of Amarillo. The family requests signing the online memory book. Cremation Friday, February 28, 2020
