Annie Sue Travis 86, of Amarillo died Friday, December 28, 2012 at her home. Celebration of Life Services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Rev. Joe Cofer, pastor of New Birth Baptist Fellowship Church officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Ann was born July 4, 1926 in Paris, Tennessee to the late, Ballard and Rachel (Washum) Porter. She was the first of five children born to this union. Mrs. Ann accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Church of the Living God, where she was a member for many years. She lived in Chicago, IL., Louisville, KY., and Memphis, TN before settling in Amarillo in 1985. Mrs. Ann, as she was affectionately known, was a children's caregiver for many years. She worked at the Children's Cottage and was a caregiver long before moving to Texas. She always gave of herself to others. She was a great Christian influence to many children and young adults throughout her life. Mrs. Ann was very involved in church and loved serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She had also been a member of several women's organizations through the years. In 1941, Mrs. Ann married the love of her life, Rev. Frank Travis. From this union, Rev. Travis and Mrs. Ann were blessed with 10 sons. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2008. She was also preceded in death by her son, Michael Travis and a granddaughter, Amirah Abdullah, 2 brothers, Joe Porter and Ballard Porter and a sister Ida Ingram. She was affectionately called Momma Sue by her family. Mrs. Ann left to cherish her memory, 9 sons, Cordell Travis and his wife Gloria and Recardo Travis and his wife Colleen, all of Amarillo, Frank Travis, Jr., Elder James Travis and his wife Lynn, Kareem Abdullah and his wife Mary and Johnny Travis, all of Paris, TN, Keith Hinkle, Edward Potter and Jessie Clark all of Louisville, KY; 1 sister, Luzel Saunders of Philadelphia, PA; 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
