Augustine Valdez Alvarado

Augustine Valdez Alvarado 82, of Amarillo, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022 in Amarillo. Rosary will be said at 6 pm Wednesday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11 am Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral with Fr. Tony Neusch, celebrant officiating. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Alvarado was born on May 28, 1940 in Tamalitos, Jalisco, Mexico to Rafael and Anselma (Valdez) Alvarado. He moved to Amarillo from Elsa, as a teenager. He worked as a bus driver for the City of Amarillo for many years. He retired in 2006. He was a member of St. Martin Church and attended St. Mary's Cathedral. Mr. Alvarado was hard working, dedicated husband, father. grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed watching old westerns, working in his yard and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed working on cars. Mr. Alvarado loved sitting on his porch and waving at passersby. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed his wife's home cooked meals and fresh tortillas. He was an excellent Tejano dancer and taught his daughters how to dance. He married Rafaela Salazar on Dec. 7, 1962 in Elsa. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Augustine, Jr., a daughter, Betty Aragon and a grandson, Donald "Tre" Encinias, III. He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Becky Urias, Vicky Encinias and her husband Donald, Linda Guerrero and her husband Robert and Rosie Gonzalez and her husband Raul; three sons, Jimmie Alvarado and his wife Harriet, Joe Alvarado and his wife Heather and Ricardo Alvarado; two sisters, Marilyn Garza and Paula Schmidt; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
