Austin Scott Reel, beloved son, brother, nephew, and friend, joined his Lord and Savior on March 26, 2026. Born on February 20, 2007, in Amarillo, Texas, to Josh Reel and Ashley Wheeler. Austin lived his life to the fullest and was a shining light to all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 2, 2026, at The Church of Christ at the Colonies, with Bret McCasland officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, Amarillo, Texas.
Austin attended West Plans High School, graduating in 2025. Austin was in his freshman year at Texas Tech University, majoring in Kinesiology. As an avid sports lover, his favorite football team was the Seattle Seahawks and cheering on his team at the Super Bowl this year was a highlight of his life.
Austin was an athletic young man who played football, soccer, and ran track until an injury forced him into an early retirement at the beginning of his senior year. Although Austin’s sports dreams were over, he wanted to help others who had been injured doing the sport they loved, planning on a career in Sports Medicine.
Austin was a lover of all animals, big and small, but his cat Loki held his heart. Austin had an extra little brother in his dog Huck, chasing each other, racing across the yard, and wrestling whenever they were together.
Austin loved hanging out with his friends, going to the gym, watching football, spending time with his siblings, playing video games with his brother Bronson, and rage baiting his parents; a skill that he had mastered and taught to his sister Maddie.
Austin was preceded in death by his loving Grandparents, James and Shirley Reel. His memory lives on in the hearts of his parents, Josh Reel, Ashley and Shane Wheeler, his siblings Josh McNutt, Bronson Wheeler, Alexis Reel, and Madelynn Wheeler, Grandparents Becky Wheeler, Tracy McNutt, Scott and Lisa McNutt, his Uncle Shannon McNutt, his Wife Kathleen, their children, Uncle Bret Wheeler, his Wife Linsey, their children, Uncle James Reel, his wife Julie, their children, Aunt Robyn Tramontina, her children, Aunt Tara Judd, her children, Aunt Angela Ulrich, her husband Ryan and children, as well as many more extended family and friends.
Although Austin is gone, he will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Austin never met anyone he couldn’t call a friend, and his passing leaves a whole in the hearts of everyone who loved him. To know Austin was to love him.
