Bert ""Popa"" Deaver 82 of Amarillo died Saturday April 8, 2006 at the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday at Kingswood United Methodist Church with Dr. Wylie E. ""Buff"" Hearn, pastor and Rusty Sieck of St Stephens United Methodist Church officiating. Military rites will be by the DAV Chapter #26. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Coulter Chapel, 8310 South Coulter Amarillo. Mr. Deaver was born in Greeley, CO. He lived in Amarillo most of his life. After graduating from Amarillo High School he served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Mayo. He worked in the water department for the City of Amarillo and retired after 43 years of service. He married Kathleen ""Pete"" Rider in 1942 at Amarillo. He was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class at Kingswood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2005, 4 brothers; Orville Deaver, Jack Deaver, Herbert Deaver and his twin brother Bernard Deaver and 1 sister; Genola Kensworthy. Survivors include: 2 daughters; Dannye Kaye Drake and her husband Charles Horton of Belton and Carolyn Sue Wood and her husband David of Amarillo, 1 son; Glenn Deaver of Amarillo, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. The family will be at 5704 Foxcroft and request memorial donations to Kingswood United Methodist Church Building Fund.
