Betty Jean Peck

February 2, 1943 — December 15, 2023

Betty Peck, also known as Mom, Grandma and Gigi, passed away on Friday, December 15th at her home in Amarillo. Services have been entrusted to Rector Funeral Home in Amarillo.

Betty was born in Amarillo on February 2nd, 1943, to Bill and Helen Rumsey. After being in the foster system and then spending time at her grandma and Grandpa Cheney’s Chisolm Ranch, she was adopted by C. and Ida Sing into a loving family, also gaining a sister, Chestelle.

Shortly after coming to live with the Sing family, a young man by the name Marvin Elwood Peck came to work for C. Sing in his vacuum repair shop. Betty and Marvin would quickly fall in love, eventually marrying in December of 1958. The two young lovers would relocate to Rockford, Illinois and welcome their first child, Marvin Dean on October 7th, 1959, and a second child, Cheryl Lynelle on March 20th, 1961. The young family would eventually return to Amarillo, as Betty would say, “I’m getting out of this place and going back to Amarillo, the only place to live!”. Betty and Marv would welcome one last child, Jennifer Renee, on September 15th, 1973.

Happily, back in Amarillo, Betty would go on to work various jobs. Most notably her employment would include Amarillo Livestock Auction with many family members, Gouldy Bros. Feed & Seed and finally at T Anchor Flea Market where she was the manager and operated her own stand ‘Special Gifts by Betty’ for 27 years.

Betty’s interests and hobbies included gambling, playing poker, listening to music, humbling anyone that had the courage to play her in a game of cribbage, spending time with her family and watching Bollywood Movies with her granddaughter Shelby Lynn. And goodness, did she love her dogs!

She meant so much to so many people. Her life and her passing have had a profound impact on countless individuals. There was never a stranger in her life, as she considered everyone family.

Betty is preceded in death by her biological and adopted parents, sister Chestelle, many aunts and uncles, husband Marvin Elwood Peck, son Marvin Dean Peck, granddaughter Rachael Danielle Stevens, son-in-law Frosty Northrup and son-in-law John David Sanchez.

Betty is survived by her daughter Cheryl Murray of Amarillo, daughter Jennifer Sanchez and partner Hope Jackson of Amarillo, granddaughter Nicole Cozbey and husband Chris of Stinnett, granddaughter Kimberly Karlin and husband Sean of Borger, granddaughter Ashley Peck and husband Geoff Turner of Stillwater, OK, granddaughter Hanna Peck and fiancé Eric Simmons of Stillwater, OK, grandchildren Shelby, Jessica, Michael and John Anthony Sanchez of Amarillo, adopted daughter Theresa Liles of Amarillo and adopted son Rick Bosquet of Ft. Worth, TX, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
