Billy G. Johnson 87, of Amarillo died Thursday, February 6, 2014 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday at Second Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Jones, pastor of Hollywood Road Community Church officiating. Military honors will be by the DAV Chapter #26. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Johnson was born on August 15, 1926 in Amarillo. He served with the Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Mr. Johnson worked as a commercial electrician with several different companies. He retired from Duke Electric. Mr. Johnson married the love of his life, Ruth Peninger on July 14, 1946. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He served as a deacon at Second Baptist Church for many years. He was a member of the IBEW Local 602 and the National Assoc. of Fleet Tug Sailors. He enjoyed playing golf and travelling. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jakob Hatley in 2012 He is survived by his wife of 67 years, 3 sons, Richard Johnson and Ray Johnson and his wife Kathleen all of Amarillo and Louis Johnson and his wife Sherri of Abilene; 2 sisters, Betty Donaldson of Amarillo and Violet Jacobs and her husband Jay of Sanford, FL; 6 grandchildren, Kimberly Hatley and her husband Adam, T.J. Johnson, Adrienne Kelligan, Kenny Johnson, Mike Johnson, and Christina Wilburn and 9 great-grandchildren; 2 special friends, Lisa and Jill Johnson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family requests memorial donations to City Church Children's Program or Second Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
