A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 pm Friday, October 28 at Oasis Southwest Baptist Church with Mike Ecker, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 South Osage St. Billy was born on October 31, 1950 to Carl and Mary Reeves in Silver City, NM. He was baptized at the Baptist Church in Show Low, AZ. He married Vanessa Berryman on September 4, 1976. Following their move to Amarillo, Billy joined the Amarillo Police Department on May 26, 1983. During his career as a police officer, he made corporal on August 11, 1988, received a life saving award on November 10, 1993, earned 7 commendations and became a canine officer in 1998 until his retirement on April 30, 2007. Billy was dedicated to protecting the lives of others, and was always patient and calm in any situation. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carlene Hutches; a special friend, Rick Landers; and his last canine partner, Ajax. Survivors include his wife, Vanessa Reeves of Canyon; a son Justin Reeves; a granddaughter, Jade Reeves both of Amarillo; 2 brothers, Ted Reeves and wife Marlene of Etter, and Tim Reeves and wife Ronda of Martin, TN; a sister, Nettie Reeves also of Martin, TN; a brother in law, James Berryman and wife Linda of Amarillo; and a special friend, Lt. Gary Schwab of Amarillo. The family requests that memorials be made to the Jade Reeves College Fund care of Happy State Bank, or the Amarillo Police Department Benefit Fund.
