Carmen Ford 73, of Amarillo died Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Chris Ford, nephew officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM at Shamrock Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Ford was born on April 15, 1942 in Pampa to Lee and Allie (Bussell) Newman. She was raised in Shamrock and graduated from Shamrock High School. Mrs. Ford moved to Amarillo in 1985 from Colorado Springs, CO. She retired from Plains Chevrolet in 2004 after many years of dedicated service. Carmen was a very patriotic person. She held various offices in the VFW Auxiliary, including president. She volunteered for the Children's Christmas Stocking Fund and performed flag programs at various schools and organizations. She participated in many Memorial Day ceremonies and organized the POW/MIA table ceremony. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Lee Ford in 2003. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Orthengren and her husband Alan of Amarillo; two grandsons, Corey Orthengren and Trey Orthengren both of Amarillo; her sweetheart and devoted caregiver, Vic Freese of Amarillo; one sister in law, Joyce Ford of Shamrock and several extended family members. Memorial donations can be made to the VFW Post 1475, 1401 SW 8th Avenue, Amarillo, Texas 79101. Burial will be at 2:00PM Thursday at Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock, Texas.
