Cary B. Van Dell

Cary B. Van Dell, 59 of Amarillo died Wednesday May 28, 2003 at Amarillo. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday at Southlawn Baptist Church with Greg Kinch, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Llano East Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Van Dell was born in McKinney, Texas. He married Carol Stidham in Borger in 1962. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, serving 2 tours at Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1980. He then worked as truck driver. In 1989, he became a professional truck operations instructor at TSTC, and taught the advance portion at ATC, where he retired in 2001. He was also a defensive driving instructor for the National Safety Council. Mr. Van Dell was a Christian. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Marie Van Dell in 1987, a sister, Norma Green in 1988, a brother, Darrell Van Dell in 1994, his father, Arthur Van Dell in 2000, a granddaughter, Dana Brooke Van Dell in 2000, and his step-mother, Polly Van Dell in 2003. Survivors include 3 sons, Tracy Don Van Dell and wife Amanda, Darrin L. Van Dell and wife Calandra, and Kevin Bruce Van Dell, all of Amarillo; 3 sisters, Barbara Johnson and husband Darrell of Cypress, Charlotte Doty and husband Colonel James Doty of Fredricksburg, VA, and Carolyn Lightsey and husband David of Benchley, TX; 1 brother, Mitch Carson and wife Carol of Bryan, TX; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial Donations may be made to the Randall County Veteran's Memorial Fund.
