Charles Ray Gibson

August 20, 1943 — May 18, 2025

Charles Ray Gibson, age 81 years, of Amarillo passed away, Sunday, May 18, 2025, following years of loving service to his family.

Ray was born August 20, 1943, in Paris, Arkansas. He was the son of the late Earl B. and Lillian E. (Gaskill) Gibson. Ray attended Mesa Junior College and received his undergraduate degree from Amarillo College, and his Master’s degree in Science Engineering Technology from West Texas A&M University. He retired from Xcel Energy as an Investment Recovery Manager after 33 years of service. He worked for Tri-County Electric in Guymon for several years in retirement.

Ray was a member of the North Amarillo Lions Club, where he organized their most charitable events to include their annual golf tournaments. An avid golfer himself, he enjoyed playing rounds, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, and restoring classic Fords and Mercurys all with family. He enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing, and coaching in all sports, but his favorite pastime was spending time with family and especially his 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren whether it was boardgames, outdoor games, or any activity with them.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers: Bob, Bill, and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue; son, Kyle (Traci) Gibson of San Antonio; daughters: Kayla (Greg) Halford of Magnolia, Arkansas, and Tana (Doug) Watts of Terrell, Texas; grandchildren: Brittney, Tyler, Linsey, Christopher, Nicholas, Kenzie, Lauren, and Baylea; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Roy (Edie) Gibson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sisters: Jean (Lynn) Hall of Colorado Springs, and Deanie Pfeiffer of Amarillo; sisters-in-law: Mary Sue Gibson of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Yvonne Gibson of Cortez, Colorado; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Private services and burial will be conducted at Llano Cemetery.
