Emblem

Charles Edward “Ed” Henderson, 94, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on February 17, 2026.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M., Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Rector Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at a later date. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St.

Ed was born in Effingham, Kansas on October 17, 1931, to Margaret (Brownlee) and Harry Charles Henderson. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in business.

Ed married JoAnn (Harmon) Henderson on July 16, 1953. During their marriage he served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. After returning to the United States Ed began his career with Missouri Valley, working across Texas and New Mexico, with JoAnn and their daughters Davon and Diane in tow. Then he spent 30 plus years of his career working for Amarillo Gear in HR and accounting, retiring in 1997.

In retirement Ed enjoyed fishing. If he told you a fishing story, it was 100% true. Ed also enjoyed gardening and grew his own vegetables, and because of his garden, his grandchildren still enjoy vegetables to this day. He travelled all over Texas watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Not only did his pets insist on sitting on his lap, everyone else’s pets did too.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dona Leigh Cooper; and his son-in-law, Jerry Crawford.

He is survived by his daughters, Davon Crawford and Diane Hansford and husband Don; his grandchildren, Ryan Crawford and wife Devona, Aaron Crawford, Kevin Hansford and wife Anne, Wade Hansford and wife April, and Jill Hansford; and his great-grandchildren, Ella, Maverick, Kaydance, Zach, Mathew, Cason and Collin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amarillo SPCA at www.amarillospcashelter.com or Second Chance Animal Rescue at www.scaramarillo.org.
