Charles Chuck Thompson

Charles (Chuck) Thompson, 76, died on September 28, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 12th at 3:00 p.m. at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel located at 2800 S. Osage with Ken Haney, chaplain of Interim Hospice, officiating. Chuck was born on July 8, 1937 in Timber Lake, S.D. After high school Chuck joined the Air Force where he served with honor during the Korean War. While in the service, he married Juanell Jennings. Chuck and Juanell moved to Washington where he graduated from Olympic College. After college, the couple moved back to Amarillo where Chuck began his career in the flooring business. His career included 35 years at Casey Carpet and 12 years at Witt Builders Supply. Through the years Chuck was involved in numerous organizations including the Jaycees where he served as Treasurer and President. As a Jaycee, he supported many civic projects including Revitalize Amarillo, formation of Senior Citizens, Soap Box Derby, Special Olympics, March of Dimes Telethon, and Amarillo Country Music Festival. In 1970, he was named Outstanding Young Man of Amarillo and was also given the Distinguished Service Award by the United States Jaycees. Chuck was also active in the Amarillo Executive Club, Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, CSI, AGC, and many others. Chuck loved people and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Chuck loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He spent every possible moment at his hunting leases doing what he loved best. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Margaret Thompson, a brother Frank Thompson, and a sister Sharon Parsons. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Juanell Thompson and his children Kristi Lowe-Paris, Kevin Thompson and wife Cheri, and Kara Camp and husband Blair. He is also survived by two sisters Marilyn Searles and Ardy Jeffries, a brother Willis Thompson and special friend Dan McReynolds, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. The Thompson family would like to extend their appreciation to Interim Hospice Care for taking such wonderful care of Chuck during his illness.
