Cyrene Nichole Reyes

August 16, 1991 — July 12, 2004

Cyrene Nichole Reyes 12 of Amarillo died Monday July 12, 2004 at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth. Prayer service will be at 7:00 pm Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Friday. Interment will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Cyrene was born in La Mirada, CA. She moved to Amarillo in 1997 from Blythe, CA. She completed the 7th grade at Holy Cross Catholic Academy where she had been a cheerleader. She played the violin with the Austin Middle School orchestra. Cyrene was mentioned for the National Junior Honor Society in the 7th grade. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic church and was active with the Teen-Life youth group. She was a member of the Tapayec Mariachi Band and played the Vihuela. She held a Black-belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 10. She placed 3rd in state and 5th in the 2001 Junior Olympics. She was a published poet and was very fond of animals and sports. Survivors include: father George R. Reyes of the home, her mother Deborah Gallegos of Blythe, CA, 1 sister; Denise Martinez of Lynwood, CA, 5 brothers; Robert Martinez of Los Angeles, Carlos Ochoa, III and Jose Ochoa both of Blythe CA, Joshua Correa of Amarillo and David Reyes of Harlingen, her grandparents; Alfonso and Rita Reyes of Amarillo, Sal and Margaret Gallegos of Blythe, Ca and Ciria Padilla of Norwalk, CA and 2 great-grandmothers; Inez Vargas of Amarillo and Rita Gallegos of Safford, AZ.
