October 5, 1960 — January 15, 2024

Daniel Richard Montano, known affectionately as Daniel to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas, after a life rich with love, creativity, and joy. Born on October 5, 1960, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, Daniel's early years were filled with the vibrant culture and close-knit community of his hometown.

Daniel was a proud graduate of Tucumcari High School and furthered his education at Eastern New Mexico University, where he honed the skills that would later define his career. He was a man of many talents, but it was his exceptional artistic ability that led him to a fulfilling career as a sign designer. For thirty-five years, Daniel dedicated himself to Pro Sign Company, where he became the owner and continued to work for twenty years. His creative designs became a signature part of the local landscape, and his intelligence shone through in every project he undertook.

He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Elsie Mercado, his father, Ray Montano, and his brother, Geno Montano, nephews; Brent Young, Dominic Montano.. Daniel's legacy lives on through his devoted wife, Lupe Montano, and their three children: Stephanie Loya and her husband Erik, Ariel Montano-Rivas and husband Juan, and Noah Montano. His grandchildren, Dominic, Isaiah, Laila, and Silas will miss their grandfather's warmth and playful spirit. Daniel is also survived by his siblings, Monique Mercado, Bernadette Young, Cathy Montano, Brandi Montano, and Anthony Montano, who will forever cherish the memories of their brother's loving and creative soul.

Daniel's interests were as diverse as his talents. He was an avid basketball fan, with a particular passion for the University of New Mexico Lobos. His love for the game was only matched by his love for cooking out and spending quality time with his family. Daniel's zest for life took him on many travels, and he found joy in the excitement of gambling, especially playing craps, where his intelligence often shone through.

Those who knew Daniel will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His creative spark and intelligent approach to life's challenges inspired all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Daniel's presence was a gift to the world, and his memory will be treasured by all who were touched by his kindness and generosity of spirit.
