Dewey Newburn, a loving husband, devoted father, and a man of unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at the age of 89 in Houston, Texas. Born on December 6, 1934, in Ada, Oklahoma, Dewey was a beacon of light and a pillar of strength for all who knew him throughout his remarkable life.
Preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Earl and Lillie Mae, his brothers Kenneth Newburn and Doyle Lewis, and his sister Juanita Ruth Bryant, Dewey's legacy of love and kindness lives on. He is survived by his adoring wife of 71 years, Elizabeth Blanche Walters, whom he married in May of 1953 in Clayton, New Mexico. Together, they built a beautiful family that includes their children Jennifer Ritchie and her husband Thomas, Doris Smoot and her husband Daniel, Lillie Rogers, and Nelson Newburn and his wife Alicia. Dewey's joy was multiplied with the blessing of 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Dewey's life was marked by his enduring generosity and his commitment to his faith. For 40 years, he served as a minister at the Assembly of God, touching countless lives with his heartfelt sermons and unwavering support. His ministry journey took him across various states, including Texas, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Tennessee, before he eventually retired in 1996. Even after retirement, Dewey remained an active member of the First Assembly of God since 2000, exemplifying the same dedication and love he had shown throughout his life.
Those who knew Dewey will remember him as a loving and generous man, whose faith-filled life was a testament to his strong relationship with God. He was a source of wisdom and comfort, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. His impact on his community and his congregation was profound, and he will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
