Dolores “MawMaw” Hawkins, age 85 of Amarillo, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at BeeHive Homes of Amarillo.
Dolores was born in Vilas, Colorado on July 1, 1939, and lived in Amarillo for the past 59 years. She was the daughter of the late John D. and Sarah J. (Hutches) Yokum. Dolores was a cook for Amarillo Independent Schools and Buckner Children and Family Services for ten years. She was all about her children and grandchildren, always placing them and their activities first. Dolores was an avid fan of her Golden Warriors; she kept up with family and friends on Facebook; and enjoyed casinos and horse races.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Hawkins; step-son, John L. Hawkins Jr.; and her brother, Bill Yokum. She is survived by her daughters: Darlene (Billy) Dickerson and Lori (Bryan) Young all of Amarillo, and Gina Hawkins of Houston; grandchildren: Teena Hatfield, Haleigh (Nick) Burns, McKenzie (Dustin) McFadden, Dakota (Tim) Ufford, and Bodey Cearley; great-grandchildren: Jaidyn Wardlaw, Journie Brittain, Justus Brittain, Hudson Hatfield, Emersyn Hatfield, Mikah Blackshear, Braelon Burns, Mackson Burns, Mattie McFadden, Colter McFadden, Zaila Ufford, Zoey Ufford; step-children and their children: Beverly Brinker, and Tracy (Stephen) White all of Dalhart; and brother, Dan (Carlyn) Yokum of Walsh, Colorado.
A graveside service celebrating Dolores's life will be 10:00 AM Monday, June 16 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 IH-27S, Amarillo.
