Don Dehay

Don DeHay 83, formerly of Amarillo, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021. Services will be at 2 pm Friday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Bill Crenshaw and Bob Muncy officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Don was born Jan. 16, 1938 in Kaufman to John D. and Lucille (Nation) DeHay. He moved to Amarillo in 1970 from Dumas. In 2020 he moved to Amherst. Don worked at Bell Helicopter from 1970 to 1980. He also worked at B&T Construction as a welder. Don retired as a self employed water well driller. He married the love of his life, Lou Breshears on Oct. 19, 1957 in Littlefield. Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed Bluegrass music and was a member of the Panhandle Bluegrass and Old-Tyme Music Assoc. and the Southwest Cowboy Poets Assoc. He was a faithful member of Crossroads Country Church in Amarillo. Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet DeHay and a granddaughter, Mylissa Thompson. He is survived by his wife, of the home; one son Bill DeHay and his wife Sally of Canyon; his daughter, Donna Maxfield and her husband Rodney of Amherst; his sister, Fran Phillips of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be sent to Crossroads Country Church or the Southwest Cowboy Poets Assoc.
