Dorothea Mae Garner

Dorothea Mae Garner, 76, died Friday, April 12, 2002.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Southwest Baptist Church with Les Garner, son and missionary to Mexico, and J. Alan Ford, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St.

Mrs. Garner was born in Parson, Kan. She moved to Amarillo in 1953, from Evansville, Ind. She and her husband started Grace Baptist Church and grew it to a membership of 2,000. She graduated from West Texas State University and taught school for 20 years. She married the Rev. Melvin O. Garner in 1943 at Iola, Kan.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Dora Bates of Amarillo and Laura Garner of Canyon; a son, Leslie Garner of Chihuahua, Mexico; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home.
