Dorothea Mae McGinnis, 90 of Amarillo, died Friday, March 8, 2002. Services will be held by Gay-Ciha Funeral Home of Iowa City, IA. Local arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Mrs. McGinnis was born in Providence, Illinois July 29, 1911. She was the eldest of seven children born to Dr. and Mrs. Jacob Armstrong Swisher. She graduated from the State University of Iowa with a B.S. in Commerce in June of 1934. She married Clifford Folsom McGinnis, August 4, 1934. A devoted wife and mother, Dorthea moved coast to coast with her husband and children to several different Army bases during WWII until Cliff was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. After the war she was an active member of the A.A.U.W. and was a Past Regent of the Penn-Elk (PA) Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a life long member of the United Methodist Church. The past 50 years she lived in Ridgeway and Greensburg, PA, Edwards, MO, North Port, FL and Amarillo, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff in 1972 and and a grandson, Bruce McCall. Mrs. McGinnis is survived by her daughter Eileen McCall and husband Dave of Austin, TX, her son Bob McGinnis and wife Sandi of Amarillo, TX, 7 grandchildren, Kathy Barnes, Carolyn Hubby, Connie McCall, Michael McGinnis, Marni Warner, Mark McGinnis and Matt McGinnis. She is also survived by all her bothers and sisters; Fern Becker, Lois Duncan, William Swisher, Esther Preslar, Helen Kummings and Charles Swisher. The family suggests memorial donations be to St. Stephens United Methodist Church, 4600 S.
