Dorthy May Clayton

June 9, 1935 — March 7, 2024

Dorothy May Clayton, a beacon of love and creativity, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 88. Born on June 8, 1935, in Castalia, Iowa, to Fay and Evelynn Golden, Dorothy's life was a tapestry of faith, family, and fond memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Dorothy's early years in Castalia were filled with the simple joys of rural life, which laid the foundation for her lifelong love of nature and the outdoors. She carried these passions throughout her life, finding solace in the rhythmic hum of her sewing machine as she crafted beautiful quilts and in the serene moments spent fishing alongside her beloved husband, Jim Clayton, who preceded her in death.

A wonderful wife and mother, Dorothy's legacy is lovingly carried on by her devoted children: daughters Teri Land, Christi Sander, and Shari Penny; sons Steve Nelson, Mark Nelson, and Kirk Nelson and 25 Grandchildren, 62 Great- Grand Children and 11 Great-Great Grandchildren.

she was preceded in death by her Husband Jim Clayton and daughter Lori Fowler. Her nurturing spirit extended to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Each stitch in her quilts, each catch on the lake, and each moment spent with her family were imbued with the love and care that defined her.

Those who knew Dorothy will remember her as a faith-filled woman whose relationship with the Lord was the cornerstone of her existence. Her unwavering faith guided her through life's challenges and was a source of comfort and inspiration to her family and friends.

Dorothy's creative talents were not limited to her quilting. She approached life with a resourcefulness and inventiveness that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her loving nature was evident in her every action, from the meals she prepared with care to the kind words she offered in times of need.

As we bid farewell to Dorothy May Clayton, we take solace in the knowledge that she is now with the Lord, her faith having carried her home. While she will be profoundly missed, the memories of her loving, creative, and faith-filled spirit will continue to warm the hearts of those she leaves behind. Dorothy's life was a testament to the beauty of devotion, the strength of family, and the grace of a life well-lived.
