Doyle Grimes

Doyle Grimes, 93, of Amarillo, formally of Mobeetie, Tx. died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in Amarillo. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in Mobeetie First Baptist Church with Brother Johnny Crawford officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas. Mr. Grimes was born December 13, 1915, in Sunset, Texas to Jim and Cora Grimes. He spent his childhood days in the Sunset area. He attended high school at Gould, Ok. Later moving to Wheeler County where he met his wife of 70 years Bulah Beatrice Brewer. They married July 9, 1938. He spent over 65 years as a cattle farmer in Wheeler County. He was a long time member for the Mobeetie First Baptist Church where he was an usher for over 40 years. He was a Mason and Past Master of the Mobeetie Lodge and a member for over 60 years. Doyle is preceded in death by his father and mother, and sisters, Floyce Payne, Cleo Darnell, Obeta Vanlandingham, Wanda Caballero, and Noemi Grimes. Survivors include his wife of the home; 2 sons, Jerry Grimes and his wife Beverly and Gary Grimes and his wife Marilyn all of Amarillo. One daughter Phillis Tucker and her husband Jerry of Guymon, Ok. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Marvin Grimes and wife Kelly, and Darren Grimes and wife Wendy all of Lubbock, Brent Grimes and wife Gina of Pedimont, Ok. Kelly Adams and husband Jason of Amarillo, Shanna Ackers and husband Scott of Houston, Tx; Duranda Aranda and husband Auden of Keyes, Ok; Dixie Purdy and her husband Chris of Guymon,Ok; D'Wan Grimes and fianc'e Jamey Peterson of Amarillo and Kendra Cantrell and husband Jason of Dimmitt, TX; and 17 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 brothers F.M. Grimes of Wheeler, Tx; Clell Grimes of Santa Clara, Ca; and Kenneth Grimes of Wichita Falls, Tx. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the Mobeetie Cemetery Association in care of The First State Bank of Mobeetie, P.O. Box 8, Mobeetie, Tx. 79061 Family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
