Chief Eddie Kent Wilson, 45, of Canyon died Friday October 11, 2002 Services will be at 2:00 PM Monday at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. David Lowrie, pastor officiating. Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Chief Wilson was born in Canyon. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1975. He attended West Texas State University in the fall of 1975. Chief Wilson joined the W.T.S.U. police force in 1976. He also served as a Deputy for the Randall County Sheriffs Office. During his Law enforcement career he held the ranks of patrolman, sergeant and captain. He has served as the Chief of Police for West Texas A&M University since 1989. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and a Master of Arts degree in political science and sociology. He was also a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute. He was a forensic hypnotist and was appointed to the Board of Texans Standing Tall, a statewide coalition to prevent underage drinking. Chief Wilson served on a number of committees, including four from the Department of Education in Washington, D.C. He served as a member of the Review Board for the Higher Education Center and was chairman of the U.S. Department of Education Law Enforcement Task Force. He married Terri Williams in May of 1978. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon, the Canyon Lions Club and the Texas Police Chiefs Association. Survivors include: his wife of the home, 1 daughter; Kristen Wilson of the home, 1 son; Joe Dan Wilson of the home, his parents, Dr. Kenneth and Barbara Wilson of Canyon, 2 brothers; Mark Wilson of Canyon and Dr. Brian Wilson of Canyon, and 3 nieces and 4 nephews. Viewing will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Saturday and Sunday at Brooks Funeral Directors 1702 5th Ave. in Canyon. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
