Edwin C. "Ed" Begert 81, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018 in Amarillo. Ed was born in Wheeler on May 13, 1937 to Edna and Earnest A. Begert. He enjoyed growing up on the family farm near Allison with his sister, Linda. He was a member of 4H and received the Lone Star Farmer award in high School. Ed joined the Army in 1959. And was stationed in Germany for two years. He met the love of his life, Carrie Suellen "Sue" Argo in June of 1962, when she went to visit his sister on the farm. Ed and Sue were married on Dec. 22, 1962. They lived in Amarillo where they raised two daughters. Ed was a member of San Jacinto Masonic Lodge #1330 and were very active in church. They enjoyed playing games with their family and friends. Ed had a love for dominos and would get in on any game around. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992, after 25 years of faithful service. After retiring, Ed enjoyed gardening. While living at the Clairmont, he continued gardening on his patio. Ed never met a stranger and made many life-long friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents. Dad used to often say, "You gotta grab the bull by the horns". You did it, Dad. You left a lasting impression on so many. As your granddaughter, Aimee said, "We hope and pray you get that farmhouse with a view, when you get home". We look forward to seeing you soon. We love you Dad. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; two daughters, Carrie Jane Franklin and husband Thomas, Janice Louise Mathews and husband Mike; four grandchildren, Thomas Franklin and wife Maegan, Aimee Howery and husband Tanner, Jayme Chestnut and husband Troy and Mattie Mathews; three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Kimberlynn "Sissy" Howery and Lane Chestnut; and his loving sister, Linda Sue Lieb. Memorial services will be held December 29, at Hugo's on the Square, 407 16th St, Canyon, TX 79015. Memorial donations may be made to the Special Olympics, 203 SW 8th Ave, Amarillo, TX 79101 in Ed's name.
