Elbert V. O'Neall

Lt. Col. Elbert V. ""Bert"" O'Neall, retired, 85, of Lake Tanglewood, died Tuesday October 16, 2012 at his home. Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday at Lake Tanglewood Community Church, with Roger Hubbard, pastor officiating. Full Military honors will be rendered at Memorial Park Cemetery by the Fort Hood Honor Guard, Fort Hood, Texas. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Lt. Col. O'Neall was born on July 8, 1927 in Kress to Elbert L. and Effie (Van Zandt) O'Neall. He served in the Navy during WWII. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended Texas Tech University where he was in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps. He graduated with a Masters degree in finance. He joined the Army in 1952, serving in the Korean War. He received many commendations and medals, including The Purple Heart. He retired in 1987. He served as the Green Beret Special Forces Commander with the Army Reserve in Amarillo. He worked at The Amarillo Community Federal Credit Union for 33 years and retired as CEO. He served several years on the Board of Directors at the credit union. He also served with the Republican National Committee. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Lt. Col. O'Neall was a member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and a son, David O'Neall in 1992. He is survived by his son, Patrick O'Neall and his wife Linda of Amarillo, his companion, Joe Paiz of the home, his daughter-in-law, Shirley O'Neall of Pensacola, FL, 6 grandchildren, J.D., Megan, Jake, Sarah, Josh and Jessi and 9 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
