Elizabeth Bernice Mares

Elizabeth Bernice ""Bernie"" Mares, 60 of Amarillo died Friday May 30, 2008. Private family services will be held Friday, June 6, 2008. Anatomical donation was to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Amarillo, Texas Bernie was born in Tucumcari. She moved to Amarillo in 1969 from Tucumcari. She worked as a waitress at Denny's on Paramount and Georgia for many years. She married Steven Mares in 1965 at Tucumcari. He died in 2004. Survivors include 2 daughters, Stephanie Walton and her husband Bryan and Elease Wood and her husband Shawn all of Amarillo; 1 sister, Virginia Elevario of Albuquerque, NM; 2 brothers, Dr. George Benavidez of Corpus Christi and Leonard Benavidez of Tucumcari; and 3 grandchildren, Joseph Patton, Katelin Wood and Erika Wood.
