Elmer Lee Oldham

Elmer Lee Oldham 93, of Amarillo died Sunday December 2, 2012 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Jay Franks, pastor of Compass Christian Church of Colleyville officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Oldham was born in a dugout that Indians walked on near Dozier on November 21, 1919. He was the last of seven children born to Jesse and Rosa Oldham. Mr. Oldham served in the Army during WWII. He was a part of the Normandy invasion. He received two bronze stars and a Purple Heart for his service. He was honorably discharged in 1945. After leaving the Army, Mr. Oldham worked as a farmer near Samnorwood for several years. He moved to Amarillo in 1960 where he worked for the Helium Plant for several years. He also worked for the City of Amarillo as a city Transit driver and for the Amarillo ISD as a bus driver. He received a meritorious award for saving several children when the brakes on a school bus failed. He married Neoma Rector on September 7, 1940. She preceded him in death in 2009. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Seville Estates, as well as the doctors and staff of Ussery-Roan Texas Veterans Home and Odyssey Hospice, and especially, Jay, Jessica and Beth He is survived by his daughter Carol Nugent and her husband Steve of Amarillo; 3 sons, Jim Oldham and his wife Glynelle of Amarillo, Darrell Oldham and his wife Jan of Middleville, MI and Jack Oldham and his wife Linda of Abiquiu, NM, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
