Eloise Ruth Johnson

Eloise Ruth Johnson, age 90, passed away on Dec. 15, 2018 in Amarillo, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, Dec. 21, 2018 at Second Baptist Church, 419 N. Buchanan St., with her son Louis Johnson, pastor of North Park Baptist Church in Abilene, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Eloise Ruth Johnson was born in Hedley, Texas to Arnold Franklin Peninger and Goldie Fern McCarty Peninger. Ruth married Billy Gene Johnson of Amarillo on July 14, 1946 in Amarillo.. She attended the Second Baptist Church where she was a member of the Good News Bearers and a faithful member of her Sunday school class. Ruth loved to sew, and across the years she made many items of clothing for her family. She was a lover of nature and an avid birdwatcher, and especially enjoyed hummingbirds. Ruth was a kind hearted and gentle mother who loved taking care of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy; parents Arnold and Goldie Peninger; sisters Sue Jones, Frankie Gilchrest and Jeanette Peninger; brothers Jerry, Gordon, Larry and Arnold Peninger Jr.; and great-grandson Jakob Hatley. She is survived by sons Richard Johnson and Ray Johnson and his wife Kathy of Amarillo, Louis Johnson and his wife Sherri of Abilene; sisters Doris (Bill) Summers of Vista, CA and Jackie Palmer of Kerrville, brother Richard (Jean) Peninger of Flower Mound; grandchildren Kimberly (Adam) Hatley, T.J. Johnson, Adrienne (Jerrod) Bean, Kenny Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Christina Willburn; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mary and Lydia Peninger, Betty Lou Donaldson, Tiny Johnson, and Violet Jacobs; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; close family friends; and wonderful caregivers from BSA Hospice of the Southwest. Ruth's five great-grandsons are named as her honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
