Eugene Coleman

November 23, 1929 — March 12, 2017

Eugene Kenneth Coleman went home to his Lord and Savior Sunday March 12, 2017, at the age of 87. Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, March 20, 2017 at Grand Avenue Baptist Church with Bobby Jordan, evangelist officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Gene was born and raised near Stilwell in northeastern Oklahoma. Gene served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956, which got him transferred to Amarillo, Texas from which he never left. He next worked as a civilian instructor for the Air Force before finishing his education. He then started teaching Industrial Arts and later Distributive Education with the Amarillo Independent School District where he continued until his retirement in 1987. Gene and his family enjoyed travelling with the Wally Byam Airstream travel trailer club, and travelled extensively all across the US and Canada for many years. He always enjoyed seeing what was over the next hill. Gene joined the Grand Avenue Baptist Church in the 1950s and was actively involved there most of his life. Gene is survived by his son Dean and Sharon Coleman of Amarillo, his daughter Jeannie and Janice Coleman of Amarillo, his son-in-law Robert Haines of Quinlan, TX, five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by all five of his siblings, his wife Johnnie Mae Carlile Coleman, and his daughter Patricia Ann Coleman Haines. The family expresses their great appreciation and thanks for the staff and services of the Village and Cherry II Unit at Ware Living Center and the staff and services of BSA Southwest Hospice Center. The family wishes for no flowers or other gifts but ask for any donations which you may wish to make be made in his honor to the American Alzheimers Association.
