Interment will be in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Gene was born on July 20, 1928, and spent most of his life in Amarillo. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Fox, on November 25, 1949, and they shared 62 wonderful years with each other. A former marine, he served his country proudly during WWII and the Korean War, and later worked for Southwestern Bell where he retired after 38 years. Gene was a wonderful husband, dad, and Papa. He loved being outdoors working in his yard and at his farm. His home, which he built in 1962, was amongst the several homes destroyed during the recent wildfires on February 27. They lost nearly everything, but were grateful for the safety of each other. We will all miss him dearly, but know that we will be reunited when God calls us home. Survivors include his wife; 3 children, Kenny Tate and wife Beverly, David Tate and wife Sherri, and Kim Howery and husband Roger all of Amarillo; a brother, Russell Tate; and 6 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
