Eva Alice Talbott McKnight, 89, died Saturday, November 20th in Amarillo. Graveside service will be at Palo Duro Cemetery in Wildorado, Texas with her grandson, Case Hubbart, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. Eva was born November 5, 1932, in Rexford, Kansas, the third child of William Vernon Talbott and Dora Aleta Gilbert Talbott. She spent her childhood in Rexford, Kansas, and Raton, New Mexico, graduating from Raton High School. Eva married James Calton (Tex) McKnight on January 21, 1951, in Dickens, Texas. They moved often before settling in Vega, Texas in 1962.As a young mother of four, Eva accepted Christ as her personal savior. She has been active in Baptist churches since that time, currently attending Palo Duro Baptist Church in Wildorado, Texas. Eva retired in 1995 from the Deaf Smith County Sheriff's Office and she and Tex moved to Wildorado. They enjoyed camping and fishing at Possum Kingdom Lake and traveling to and playing in bluegrass festivals. She was a gifted musician, poet, songwriter, playing piano, accordion, and mandolin. She and Tex played in several bluegrass bands and were "lifetime members" of the Panhandle Bluegrass and Olde Tyme Music Association, where she recently received an appreciation award for her years of service and dedication. Eva was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her parents, three brothers, a sister, and Juddie Holly her sister-in-law and good friend, daughter-in-law Marian McKnight, son-in-law James McDonald, and grandson Cris Wheeler. She is survived by her sister, Marie Shaw, sons Bill McKnight and wife Kay, Joe McKnight and partner Lyn of Amarillo and Jack McKnight and wife Sandra of Cherokee, Oklahoma, daughters Eva "Kathy" McDonald of Bushland and Linda Hubbart and husband Tim of Amarillo. Fourteen grandchildren and their spouses, 27 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, including 1 on the way, and many nieces and nephews. Our family thanks her sweet group of Wildorado friends, especially Carolyn Gouldy, June Cleavinger, and Jacque Pratt.
