Frances Ratheal

Frances Ratheal, 92, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021, surrounded by family. Services will be 10 am Friday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Mark Roberts of Denton, Texas officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Frances was born in Smackover, Arkansas October 23, 1928 and grew up in Arkansas and Mississippi until her marriage to O.L. "Shorty" Ratheal on December 22, 1949 in Columbia Mississippi. They made the move to Amarillo, Texas, and began raising their family. Frances became a licensed hairdresser in 1967 and worked from her in home beauty shop. She never turned down a head of hair. She would start at 5:00 a.m. and work until the kids starting coming in from school. Frances was an amazing cook and all from scratch! Homemade chocolate pie and German chocolate cake were highly requested by the family. She enjoyed crocheting, listening to gospel music, and sewing. Frances made many a dress for daughters and granddaughters as well as special blankets and pillows many. She could also grow anything and did grow almost everything! Her rose bushes were always beautiful and a new Iris hybrid from the sale at the Botanical Gardens was a must each year. Frances loved her family well and was loved back well. Her love for family didnt stop at the front door. Frances also loved her church family. She gave unselfishly of her time to Vacation Bible schools, special dinners at the church and her womens Sunday school class activities. Her kindness and encouragement was unending. Her love for the Lord was a true example to everyone around her. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty in 2018 and her son, Oda Lee in 2002. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Beth Thompson and her husband Stewart and Debra Sue Gaines and her husband Donald, all of Amarillo; one son, David Ratheal and his wife Laura of Amarillo; one sister, Betty Chism of Hobbs, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Jerrico Fjetland, Courtney Chambers, Amanda Roberts, Dustin Ratheal, Braxton Gaines and Sarah Reid; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 Great-great-grandchildren.
