Frank Vitela Hernandez, Sr.

Frank Vitela Hernandez, Sr. 78, of Amarillo died Friday, April 14, 2017 in Amarillo. Rosary services will be at 6:00 PM Monday, April 17, 2017 at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Laurence Catholic Church. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Frank was born on July 13, 1938 in Gonzales to Margarito and Dominga Hernandez. He moved to Amarillo in the late 1960's from Childress where he worked in agriculture. After moving to Amarillo, Frank worked as a driver for the Keebler Company. He was a dedicated and faithful employee for more than 40 years. He retired in 2005. Frank was a long time member of St Laurence Catholic Church. He loved being outdoors. Frank enjoyed spending time at lakes and rivers with his family and friends. He enjoyed outdoor barbeques and collecting rocks from places he had visited. More than anything, Frank loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed sitting around a campfire at his mother's home and telling stories and was very proud of his Kickapoo Indian heritage. He married Juanita Martinez on June 11, 1960 in Childress. She preceded him in death in 2007. He is survived by two daughters, Rachel Lozano and her husband Robert of Amarillo and Melissa Pham and her husband Matt of Allen; three sons, Frank Hernandez, Jr., and his wife Christina, Michael Hernandez and Jimmy Hernandez all of Amarillo; three sisters, Rosie Abrego and Mary Ragsdale both of Collinsville and Betty Hernandez of Gainesville; four brothers, Bobby Hernandez of Childress, Johnny Hernandez, Raymond Hernandez and Charlie Hernandez all of Collinsville; 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday and from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
