Fred Joseph Englund II, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on May 5, 2023. He was 92 years old. Fred will lie in state for public viewing on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 9am to 2pm at Rector Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 9am to 4pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 12pm in the funeral homes chapel with Lance Herrington of Paramount Baptist presiding. Graveside services will be held at 3pm at Westlawn Cemetery between Fritch and Borger on Hwy 136 following the funeral service. The son of Fred Joseph Englund and Jessie Mae (Huffmire) Englund, Fred was born in Ochelata, Oklahoma on December 12, 1930. He had 5 sisters and 1 brother. Freds father worked as a pumper and engineer in the oil field in Oklahoma and was good friends with Frank Phillips. When Fred was young, he would go with his daddy to visit Frank Phillips and would crawl up on his desk and sit in his lap. He also remembered attending one of his birthday parties and being excited that he could have all the candy, soda, and buffalo burgers he wanted. His family lived in Oklahoma and Kansas during his childhood. Fred graduated from Shidler High School in Shidler, Oklahoma in 1948 and attended college in Tonkawa, Ok and then the University of Oklahoma for one semester. In 1951, Fred met Mary Jo Norman and they were married on February 16, 1952 in Borger, Texas in her parents apartment. Fred enlisted in the military in the Marine Air Corps during the draft for the Korean War in 1952. He learned morse code and was the navigator on air crafts. Fred and Mary lived in Borger for a short time until they moved to the naval station in Tennessee then on to Miami Beach where their daughter, Karen, was born in 1954. After he was discharged, they moved back to Borger, and their son Phil was born in 1957. Fred worked for Phillips Petroleum. In 1983, they moved to Bartlesville, then moved to Amarillo after Freds retirement in 1986 and he has been a resident for 37 years. Fred and Mary were married 53 years until Mary lost her battle with cancer in 2005. Fred met Saundra "Saunie" Lee Bates (Lauder) at church and on July 12, 2007 they married in Amarillo, Texas. They were married 13 years until her death on April 22, 2020. In his free time, Fred liked to golf and oil paint. He was a member of the Paramount Baptist Church and loved to sing in the church choir. His most proud accomplishment was that he became a Christian. He was also a member of the Masons of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Earnhart and husband Jerry of Borger, Tx and son, Phil Englund and wife Connie of Lubbock, Tx. His grandchildren are Dustin Earnhart and wife Delpha of Northlake, Tx; Whitney Bates and husband Caleb of Spring, Tx., Joseph Englund and wife Aubrey of Sanford, Tx., Chase Englund and wife April of Lubbock, Tx., Ronnie Mitchel and wife Renee of Borger, Tx., Hope Conners and Husband Harrell of McClean, Tx., Lindsey Fincher and husband Chad of Fort Worth, Tx., great grandchildren are Alex and Cole Earnhart, Emerson and Sawyer Bates, Aiden, Emma and Chase Englund Jr., Noah, Seth, Haven and Asher Mitchell, Natalie, Jagger and Huc Conners, Reece and Mason Fincher. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Paramount Baptist church or a charity of choice.
