Garland Wayne Harmon died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in Amarillo, Texas Garland was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma on February 10, 1942 to Joe Herbert Harmon and Vivian Augustine Foresman Harmon. He grew up in Laverne, Oklahoma and graduated from Laverne High School in 1960. He married Mary Ann Shuman on December 24, 1960. He loved electronics and went to college in Okmulgee, OK. He worked as TV repairman in a department store in Bakersfield, CA and Oklahoma City, OK and Liberal, KS. He had owned or co-owned TV and electronics repair shops in Liberal, KS and Laverne, OK, and owned a bowling alley in Beaver, OK. He worked in the oil field for a wire line company in Woodward, OK and Canadian, TX. He promoted and worked as Operations Supervisor for several years before he was laid off due to down-sizing of the oilfield. He also owned a laundromat in Canadian. He went back to college in Lubbock,TX earning an associate degree in computer science. He was hired by G-Tech as a customer service representative servicing lottery machines in the Texas Panhandle, Amarillo becoming his home base. He transferred to the communications department and was over the Texas satellite communications team at G-Tech, traveling all over Texas. He also worked on several special projects for G-Tech including projects in California, Montana, New Mexico, Barbados, and South Africa before retiring due to health issues after approximately 20 years. His welcoming party in heaven includes his parents, his wife of nearly 55 years, and two sisters: Eva Harmon and Vinita Helmuth. Those looking forward to him being part of their heavenly welcoming party include brothers, Kenneth "Butch" Harmon of Laverne, OK, Joe David Harmon of Yukon, OK, a sister, Joetta Thornhill of Pampa, TX, multiple nieces and nephews; children Dianna Harmon of Amarillo, Terry Harmon of Perryton, Lea Ann Coombs of Miami/Canadian/Amarillo, Brian Harmon of Amarillo, and Shane Harmon of Italy; 9 grand /step-grandchildren and 5 great/ step-great grandchildren. Viewing will be Saturday 12:00-8:00 and Sunday 1:00-5:00 at Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage Amarillo, Texas. Family visitation will be Sunday 2:00-4:00 pm.
