Garry Dave Irwin, 69, of Amarillo passed in his home on April 2, 2023. The family will host a celebration of life at Family Life Fellowship, 3900 SW 58th at 11am on Thursday, April 13, 2023. Garry was born on July 10, 1953 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to David and Aletta (Reed) Irwin. He attended Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas and would become a welder. Garry was a kind-hearted, gentle person who loved to help those around him. He cared greatly for everyone he knew. He genuinely loved people. Although a kind person, he could be onery and was not afraid to let you know how it was. He was honest almost to a fault and was incredibly outspoken if he felt you stepped out of line. Garry was a self-taught mechanic. He worked on and collected all sorts of cars and motorcycles. He could break it down, fix what was wrong, and rebuild it, sometimes in the same afternoon. He used to give his kids rides on the motorcycle two at a time, and looking back on how unsafe it was, they all made it just fine and enjoyed every second of riding with Dad. Gary was a welder by trade. He worked for the family welding business, Irwin Welding for many years and could "stack dimes" without using a grinder. When not under the hood or behind the welding mask, Garry could be found outside in nature enjoying lake time and fishing. He spent many days just drowning worms in hopes of landing the big catch while listening to some good classic rock, which he would listen to no matter what he was doing. Garry is preceded in death by his father, sister Alice Lorene Honea, and son Aaron Dave Irwin. Those left to cherish his memories are his mother Aletta Irwin, daughters Cressa Irwin and Coleman, Jessica Ireland and Kevin, and Alexandria Gillespie and Brandon, son Dallan Irwin and Miranda; sister Dollie Pickens, brothers Paul and Johnny Irwin, as well as his nine grandkids (with one on the way) and many other loving family and dear friends.
