Gary Stewart Hickam

A celebration of his life will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 31 in the Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Pastor Larry Hickam, his brother, officiating. Burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Gary was born on February 22, 1944 to Stewart and Athel Hickam in Clayton, NM. He married Brenda Dodson on September 9, 1969 in Amarillo. He was an Army Vietnam Veteran, life member of Disabled Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the 7th Battalion 8th Field Artillery Association. He retired as a business agent from UFCW Local 540, Dallas, in 2004. Gary loved his Lord and was a member of Charity Baptist Tabernacle. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren knowing they were saved by God's grace. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Stewart Hickam; a brother, Keith Hickam; and a sister, Billie Marie Hickam. Survivors include his wife of Amarillo; his mother, Athel Hickam of Amarillo; a daughter, Angie Vences and husband Esteban of Amarillo; a son, David Hickam also of Amarillo; a brother, Larry Hickam and wife Esther of Claude; a sister, Norma Curtis Hawkins of Panhandle; 5 grandchildren, Angela and Steven Vences, Dallas and Tyler Hickam, and Hayden Culpepper all of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation for all the prayers and visits from all our loved ones and friends. All the prayers from different church groups were very comforting to us. They would also like to express a special appreciation to BSA Hospice for their care.
