Gene Ditmore

Gene Ditmore 86, of Amarillo died Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 pm Monday at Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Danny Logan, chaplain at Interim officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S Osage St. Gene was born in Mountain Home, AR on Dec. 18, 1934 to Vincent Gary and Virginia Belle (Mauney) Ditmore. He moved to Amarillo at the age of 10. Gene worked in the freight industry most of his life. He retired from Jack Cooper transport in 2000. Gene married the love of his life, Byrlene Hawkins in 1952 in Tucumcari, NM. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star with Byrlene. He served as Master of several lodges in Amarillo and the panhandle area. He also served as Worthy Patron of A.E. Shirley, O.E.S. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001. Gene is survived by his son, Scott Ditmore and his wife Deborah of Amarillo; his brother, Mac Ditmore of Houston; two grandchildren, Brittney Carson of Post and Jeremy Ditmore of Amarillo; four great-grandchildren, Katie Mays, Jonathan Mays, Kambri Ditmore and Jett Dittmore all of Amarillo. The family suggests memorial donations to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
