Gene B. Monden 86 of Amarillo died Wednesday October 14, 2009 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday in Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel with Rev. Robert E. Field, retired Baptist minister officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home Osage Chapel 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Monden was born in Parks, OK. He grew up in Borger, where he also worked in the oil fields. He moved to Pringle in 1968 where he worked as the custodian for Pringle ISD. He also worked as a custodian at Skellytown and Mobeetie ISD's. In 1974, Mr. Monden Moved to Hartley and worked for the Hartley ISD until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartley where he also served as a deacon. He moved to Amarillo in 2000 and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. Mr. Monden served in the Air Force during WWII and received a Purple Heart. He married Melba McCoy on March 29, 1947 at Borger. He is survived by his wife of 62 years; 2 daughters, Kimberly Johnson of Amarillo and Shari Robertson and her husband Woody of Sanford; 2 sons, Alan Monden and his wife Bonnie of Amarillo and David Monden and his wife Demarus of Ojai, CA; Several step-brothers and sisters; 9 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family requests memorial donations to Meals on Wheels.
