A celebration of his life will be at 11:00 am Friday, February 25 at Trinity Fellowship Church North Ministry Center with Pastor John Love officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home 2800 S. Osage St. Gene was born on May 9, 1930, and was a life long resident of Amarillo. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, Gene was a welder for Gilvin and Terrill where he retired after several years of labor. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed being in the mountains, gardening, and fishing. His family was very dear to him, and he cherished the moments spent with each one during the past few years. He will be deeply missed. The family would like to express a special appreciation to Interim Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Survivors include a son, Bobby Slayton and wife Sherrie of Amarillo; 5 grandchildren, Ginger Hanson and husband Tom of Amarillo, Bobby Slayton II and wife Michele of Canyon, Michael Slayton and wife Amy, Steven Tibbets and wife Katie of Amarillo, and Laura Slayton; 6 great grandchildren, Colten, Tommy, Houston, Candace, Amy, and Austin. The family requests that memorials be made to Bethesda Outreach Center.
