George Hatley Broughton

George Hatley Broughton, 95 years old, of Valle de Oro, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025.


George was born in Memphis, Texas on January 4, 1930. He was the son of the late Hershel W. and Genie (Dawson) Broughton. George was raised in Dawson, Texas before serving in The United States Army in Germany during the occupation and later at Vint Hill Farms in Warrenton, Virginia. He retired as a Trooper III with the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1985 after 33 years of service. George enjoyed woodworking, hunting, ranching, and scuba diving. He was one of the founders of the Amarillo Scuba Diving Association.


In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brother, James Broughton. George is survived by his wife of 71 years, Patsy Broughton; son, Mark Broughton of Valle de Oro; daughter, Melissa (Dennis) Blair of Thornton, Colorado; grandchildren: Christopher (Keena) Broughton, Brittany (Sean) Usman, Tyler Blair, and Miles Blair; great-grandchildren: Evan and Julia; brothers: Joe (Dorothy) Broughton of Morgan Mill, Texas, and Ben Broughton of Lufkin, Texas.


A private burial and memorial service will be held.
