George Rex Burris

George Rex Burris 79, of Amarillo died Tuesday December 23, 2014 in Amarillo. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am Monday in First United Methodist Church in Happy. George was born on November 8, 1935 in Becton to Ira and Etta Burris. He attended 13 different Schools and graduated from Happy High School in 1954. George served two years in the US Army during the Korean War where he guided the 1st missals Nike. George loved supporting Gods Missions he drilled water wells in India and dedicated it to his parents. He helped Russian Jews to Israel, he supported the orphans in Israel and the Indian School in South Dakota George was a man of many talents, he worked at the Pantex plant. He was a Dairyman and a Pilot, an owner and operator of five Barbershops in Bridgeport with one in Panhandle. He owned Bullies Corral Caf, a Water well Drilling Service, and a Heavy equipment / construction business from 1970 to 1990. George worked on the school board of Paradise, Texas ISD for 3 years. He chartered the Fellowship for Christian Athletes at Bridgeport High School. He enjoyed teaching high school Sunday school class for 15 years. He raised a Master Mason on January 8, 1959, 32nd degree in 1964 in Dallas. Survivors include: his wife Sue Burris of Happy, two daughters: Debbie Braden of Los Alamos, NM, Sheri Hughes and husband Leslie of Decatur, a Son: William Burris and his wife Monette of Bridgeport, a sister: Fern Anderson of CA, seven grandsons, one granddaughter, and nine great grandchildren. Family will receive friends at the Church from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday.
