George 'Gw' Walter Nigh Jr

George "G.W." Walter Nigh Jr, 76, of Amarillo passed peacefully in his home on April 17, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Friends and family are welcome to come and pay final respects beginning at 10am until 4pm on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage. The family will hold a private inurnment at a later date. G.W. was born in Rogers, Arkansas on October 13, 1946 to George Sr and Mary (Williams) Nigh. He moved to Texas with the family and attended Borger High School and Palo Duro High School prior to enlisting in the United States Navy. G.W. served proudly as a US Navy SEAL during Vietnam. He wore the title of SEAL Proudly throughout his years. After returning home from the war and while still enlisted, G.W. was able to attend college and graduated with his Electrical Engineering Degree from the University of Florida. On Halloween of 1976 in Slaton, Texas, G.W. set off on his next big adventure when he took the hand of his beloved Lucretia Fletcher in marriage. Together, they built their family based on the bounds that there was no such thing as a stepchild, as Lucretia already had one son. They were all family and G.W. loved his family. He was an avid fisherman and loved to take his boys out to drown a worm. They used to place a $3 bet, one for the first catch, one for the most catches, and one for the biggest catch. G.W. was a natural-born hard worker. He put in 33 years of dedicated service to the Santa Fe Railroad, now BNSF, before his first "retirement". Following his departure from the railroad, he took up mechanic work and eventually opened and ran Gs Mobile RV Service before he finally retired. G.W. is proceeded in death by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, and his beloved puppy Molly. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 46 years, Lucretia, sons Donald "DJ" Nigh and Sandra, George Alvin Nigh Sr and Kimberly, sister Marty Brown, niece Shonnie Jones, and four grandchildren and one great grandchild; as well as many other loving family and dear friends.
