George A. Phillips

George A. ""Soggie"" Phillips, 83 of Amarillo, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 in Amarillo. Services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday at Believer's Way Church with Joe Prestwood, associate pastor officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Funeral Home Osage Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Phillips was born on January 13, 1929 in Gore, Oklahoma, to John William and Bessie Arizona (Rogers) Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a carpenter by trade. He loved using his hands and providing for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He moved to Borger in 1956 from Kenwood, OK. He worked for West Texas Construction, Tri-State Construction and Wrangler Construction. He lived in Fritch for 30 years. He moved to Amarillo in 2010. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Phillips. He married Doris J. Ross on December 13, 1967. They were a month and a half away from celebrating their 45th anniversary. He is survived by his wife of the home; 6 daughters, Georgie Cornelsen and Angie Phillips both of Amarillo, Connie Valle of Fritch, Linda Kirkland of Mt. Pleasant, Laura Kitzel of Corsicana and Vicki Macarty of Frisco; 1 brother, Joe Phillips of Festus, MO; 1 sister, Betty ""Hannah"" Brewer of Peggs, OK; 14 grandchildren, Tonja, Ty, Lori, Denzil, Daisy, Amber, Amy, Zack, John, Brooklyn, Paul ""PJ"", Kandice, Kim and Dillan; 9 great grandchildren, Trent, Tayte, Tristan, McKynlee, Kinzer, Wacey, Addyson, Landyn and Alexx. The family suggests memorial donations, in lieu of flowers to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch and Girls Town. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM Friday, at the funeral home.
