Gerald Eugene Van Note

Gerald Eugene Van Note, 86, of Amarillo passed peacefully in his home on April 28, 2023. A celebration of Geralds life will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 3pm in the Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Gerald Eugene Van Note was born on November 4, 1936 in Neptune New Jersey to Harold and Alicia (Doan) Van Note. Following the familys relocating he would be raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Gerald earned the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America and has been an avid HAM Radio Operator since 1948. In 1954, Gerald would enlist in the United States Marine Corp where he faithfully served his country and would be honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1957. Gerald worked as a freight driver for Jersey Coast Freight Lines for 30 years. In 1964, Gerald began his 59 year journey with his beloved Hanna Marian Norman when they exchanged vows and decided to enjoy each others company for life. Gerald was a member of the Unexcelled Volunteer Fire Department and the Neptune First Aid Squad for the better part of two decades, becoming Fire Chief in 1979. He served on the Neptune Board of Fire Commissioners from 1980 to 1988. In 1989, the family moved to Amarillo, Texas and Gerald began working as a Security Officer at the William P. Clements Unit Prison, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. He is preceded in death by his parents his parents, and brothers Roberts and William. Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved Hanna, son Richard Van Note and wife Janice of Amarillo, grandchildren Rhian Glover of Amarillo, Jessica Van Note of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Christian Van Note of Amarillo, and great granddaughter Lindie Glover of Amarillo. The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice, the Thomas E Creek VA Hospital, and all our wonderful friends. In lieu of flowers, Gerald requested that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in honor of USMC Sergeant Gerald Eugene Van Note.
